Companies with a social mission as rad as their products are few and far between. Karmalit just happens to be one such company, blending handmade candles produced with ethically harvested, sustainable resources and a mission to support the classroom needs of students everywhere through their Smell Good. Do Good. initiative. Thankfully they agreed to collaborate on a custom scented candle (Not the Favorite Hoodie candle pictured above, which is amazing) to be included in the 1st edition Collusionist Crate. In addition to agreeing to collaborate, Karmalit founder Sejal Parag was also kind enough to electronically fill out a version of The Collusionist Worksheet (TCW).
TCW: What are your three favorite products right now?
Instacart- I know its not a product but I LOVE this service. In the season of life that we’re in life is a little chaotic so we love to order groceries online and have them delivered within hours.
Samsung Adwash Washing Machine-Believe it or not this is genius! It's not just a funny commercial with Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell to me. There is always a onesie or wash cloth I forget to add to the washer but this machine saves me from doing a second load!
Wet Ones- I’ve used wet ones for years and was always annoyed that the wipes would dry out. Recently they added a new Wet Loc Seal which helps keep the seal closed so the wipes don’t dry out. It's awesome!
TCW: What Inspires You?
Imagine striking a match, lighting a candle and being instantly transported to a favorite childhood memory. That can happen when you light a candle because scent plays an enormous role in how we craft our memories. So we're inspired by our customers stories of why they choose our brand over others. We've heard our scent, Sandcastle Dew reminds some of their grandmother. One customer in Seattle buys one Golden State candle every month because it reminds him of his hometown in Southern California. He’s said its “California in a bottle” and that's exactly what we were going for when we created this scent. We wanted the mountains, the dessert, the ocean and all the good things we loved about California inside one bottle:)
TCW: What job were you working before you started KarmaLit and what made you realize it was time to move on?
I started KarmaLit out of a love for giving back and a desire to do something that set my heart on fire. After 8 years planning events for an education non profit I was feeling unfulfilled. I was surrounded by teachers making enormous impacts with their students. I wanted to get out from behind the desk and create my own dream job. So I started slowly – researching, making mistakes, falling on my face, googling all the things, asking questions, asking more questions, and falling again :). I spent hours upon hours and then days and weeks crafting our candle formulas, researching packaging and learning the handmade lingo. I’ll never forget what it felt like to see an email come to my inbox that read, “You’ve made a sale!”
